What is a Bitmap?

A Bitmap is a special collection of ordinal inscriptions that represent ownership of Bitcoin's own blockspace. 123.bitmap is block 123 and contains all of its transactions. Bitmaps are understood to be the decentralized metaverse on Bitcoin, with a number of projects building Bitmap-compatible games.

It sounds like Bitmaps have no supply cap. What makes them valuable?

Accepted Answer

While there is no maximum supply of Bitmaps, they follow a very limited and controlled release. A new Bitmap becomes available only when a new Bitcoin block is mined (roughly 10 minutes). With a constant release rate, the relative rate of new Bitmaps is always decreasing. As an example, the Bitmap supply will increase by about 6.0% in the next year, but only by 5.6% in the following year.
